Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important official said the attack made him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
